
Krista Voto
"Krista Voto is an interdisciplinary artist based in Atlanta. Originally from New Jersey, she graduated from Ramapo College of New Jersey with a BA in Visual art and an Art Education degree. She then received her MFA in Sculpture from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Voto is a professor of Art in Foundations at Kennesaw State University.
Her works consist of materials ranging from metals to textiles in combination with sewing and weaving techniques. Often, her forms mimic that of a chrysalis/nest formations and the femininity found in tree forms. Her subject matter addresses feminism, societal pressures, and the human experience.
Her new body of work entitled ‘Uprooted Ties’ focuses on parallels draw between naturally occurring root/vine formations and the intricate intertwining of fibrous structures. These forms creating labyrinths that feel inherently connected to humanity. While humanity seems to currently in complete and utter disconnect, these structures remind us that we are all biologically connected."
